Red for Heart Photography Competition 2010
Here are the well deserved winners, runners
up and highly commended images from our second annual Red for Heart
Photography competition.
The Winners
Adult Winner
Service Tunnel by Gillian Hayes
"The service tunnel, an area mainly unseen and hidden in the
depths of a building, full of pipes, wires and gizmos endlessly and
faithfully chugging away to keep the building running smoothly
above.
"This reminded me of the role of our heart, which also works
endlessly and faithfully away in our bodies without rest, to keep
everything in check."
Student Winner
The Stage by Matthew Town
"To me 'heart' is all about having the courage to face
anything. I have tried to represent it by showing where people
perform, having the courage to show people you can do it.
"Within my images I have added the factor of an audience
which tends to put you at your most vulnerable, but being able to
overcome fear we are able to achieve great things."
The Runners up
Runner up - Adult
Bangor Pier by Nick Board
"This is a photo of my niece and nephew Sophie and Thomas. I hope
it captures a little of the good health and sheer joie de vivre
enjoyed by the young, something all of us should, and could, carry
with us through life.
Runner up - Student
Moen Lanke by
James Morgan
"In this portrait of Moen Lanke, a sea nomad from Indonesia, the
faded red of his handmade goggles represents to me the fading hope
that he keeps in his heart as he watches his culture and traditions
disappearing around him."

About the Red for Heart Photography Competition
By the time our competition closed in early January we
had received over 800 fantastic images. There was only one
rule - the colour red was to be incorporated into the
photo. Entrants were encouraged to show “what heart means to
you”. There were
fantastic prizes to be won and we had a team of
expert judges.
The competition raised over
£3,500 for our Red
for Heart campaign - raising vital funds to help us continue
our life-saving work.

next competition is open for entries, please email us.
