FOOD STUFF

Ever thought about the stuff that goes into the food you eat? Or why some foods make you feel great and others don't?

Junk food like burgers and fried chicken, and sugary stuff like fizzy drinks, sweets, chocolate, biscuits and cakes, all give you an energy boost for a short time, but leave you feeling shattered in the end. This is because you get a 'sugar rush' but then it dies down and leaves you even more tired than before.

Next thing you know, you'll be reaching for another can, or bar of chocolate, and you'll end up in a cycle of energy 'ups' and 'downs'.

So what would be better?

Eat more fruit and vegetables.  Aim for five portions a day (a portion is about a handful). These give you vitamins and minerals that are vital for a clear head.

Drink plenty of water. Dehydration makes you tired, and it's easy to become dehydrated without even realising.

Keep the chocolate and cakes for treats, and go for healthier snacks, like a piece of fresh fruit, a yoghurt or crunchy vegetable sticks and a low-fat dip.
