Who are the BHF?
The British Heart Foundation (BHF) is the
UK's biggest heart charity. Our goal is to lead the fight against
heart disease – the nation's
number one killer.
A little bit about us
What do we do?
- Invest money in pioneering research into heart disease and new
kinds of drugs and operations, to save lives.
- Pay for BHF nurses to care for heart patients.
- Provide vital information about reducing the risk of heart
disease.
How did it all begin?
The BHF was started in 1961 by a group of doctors. They wanted
to raise money for vital research into new ways of preventing and
treating heart disease.
Have things improved?
Since 1961, there
have been huge improvements. Heart surgery is now common and clever
techniques, such as imaging and
keyhole surgery, have been
introduced.
Many of today's drugs and treatments might never have been
possible without the BHF.
But to continue this life-saving work in the future, we still
need your support.
How can you help?
As a charity, the BHF relies on people donating time, money and
goods.
Fundraising can be great fun, and there are loads of
BHF events your whole family can take part
in.
It's an emergency!
Would you know what to do if someone collapsed and stopped
breathing?

If not, think about getting your school to start up an
Emergency Life Support (ELS) training
course.
The BHF runs a programme, called
